What’s your background?

I am from Argentina originally. I discovered my interest for technical problems at the age of 10 when I connected a battery to a toy engine, and I saw it moving. That’s why I started to study at a technical High School where I got a certificate as an electronic technician. Following that, I undertook a degree in telecommunication engineering which I finished in 2007, and then I worked for several years in telecommunication services for local and international companies.

I moved to the UK for a year to study the English language intensively and it was while there that I read a book on photonics and realized that I wanted to specialist in the subject so I applied for course in the UK and Germany and I won a full scholarship to study for an MSc in optics and photonics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .

How did you come to join Mynaric?

I was aware of Mynaric from my time working at the German Aerospace Center’s Institute of Communications and Navigation following my studies in Karlsruhe. I was working on adaptive optics compensation for free-space optical communications– which was the topic of my PhD – and saw that Mynaric would be a great place to move to forward my career. Not only does working here allow me to pursue a career in the industry but it also allows me to apply the knowledge I have gained in my studies to date: it’s a good mix of corporate and technical.

What do you like about working here?

I work on systems, bringing ideas and customer needs into solutions that can be achieved with our products. We offer full solutions to customers and for that you need a technical background so it’s great to be able to use that to explain how Mynaric can help with full system setup: from drawing board to space!

I really enjoy working with the people here. It’s easy to talk to people. There is a great deal of honesty – no office politics or anything like that – and that’s very important to me.

The company is also growing and you can sense everyone working as a team to achieve this.

I am also allowed to study things in areas that are new to me and that makes the job interesting.

And how do you relax outside of Mynaric?

Mountain biking! I grew up near the mountains and I have always had a mountain bike. Being so close to the mountains in Bavaria is perfect for biking, as well as for hiking. But there is nothing better than a barbecue with my very good group of international friends on the banks of the Isar on a warm summer’s evening…
